Milazzo

It is a town on the coast of north-east Sicily, west of Messina, and best known for its castle. This locality is also the starting point of the beautiful cruises aboard Mar e Mar to reach the Aeolian Islands. After the embarking you will have time to familiarize with the crew and to be accommodated in your cabins.

Lipari

Lipari the bigger island of Aeolian Archipelago. You can visit there: the Castle, the Archaeological Museum, the Spas of San Calogero, the Guardia mountain where is the international geophysical observatory. Lipari is also called “the queen of the white bays”, because it has six stunning white bays.

Vulcano

This is a small volcanic island about 12 miles north of Sicily and located at the southernmost end of the seven Aeolian Islands. The island is known for its volcanic activity and contains several volcanic calderas, including one of the four active volcanoes in Italy that are not submarine. Will be possible to admire the Bay of the Black Sands, famous for its beach of black volcanic sand, and the Great Crater, a depression 5,000 metres in diameter.

Salina

With its three inhabited centres, Santa Marina, Malfa and Leni, it’s the second largest where olive trees, caper bushes, lush fig trees and citrus fruits are grown. Malvasia the sweet wine, that is local to these islands, enhance the pleasures of good food. There are narrow stone streets, pebble beaches and two volcanoes that have been dormant for 13,000 years. The best for swimming and relax is the wonderful Pollara bay where Massimo Troisi shot the film Il Postino. Others picturesque villages are Rinella and S. Marina di Salina.

Panarea

It is surrounded by small islets such as Lisca Nera, Bottaro, Lisca Bianca, Panarelli and Basiluzzo. Its origin is volcanic, visible from the “fumaroles”, which discharge the gas and steam from the subsoil. There are also thermal springs. Panarea is also the most glamorous island of the archipelago, famous for its sea, its beaches and its lively nightlife.

Filicudi

Wild and picturesque, perfect for those who love unspoiled nature. The island is famous for the cultivation of capers and figs, essential ingredients for the local cuisine. There are several small villages on the island, each with its own character. At Capo Graziano the remains of a prehistoric village dating back to 3000 BC were recently found: twenty-five oval-shaped huts, in which ceramic remains were also found. Near the village, inhabited until 1430 BC, a sacrificial altar was also found.

Alicudi

The most distant of the islands and for this reason it is a true paradise on earth. Unspoilt and rugged with some breath-taking seaside scenery. An island of fishermen where time has stopped, it has beautiful beaches that can only be reached by sea. Do not miss the church of San Bartolo, patron saint of the Aeolian Archipelago.

Stromboli

On this island is one of the four active volcanoes in Italy. Very characteristic and fascinating, the island is the summit of a large active submerged volcano. It boasts beautiful black sand beaches. Its volcano, always active, surprises, especially during the night for incandescent lava games. Fascinating excursions can be made on the island, among palms, citrus fruits, olive trees and capers up to the lunar landscape of the Sciara del Fuoco.
